Kartik Chandra Roy, a needy rickshaw puller from Pirgacha, struggled to make a meager living for his five-member family. When dense cataracts clouded both of his eyes, he could no longer navigate the roads safely and had to abandon his rickshaw.
Reduced to begging and depending on elderly neighbors, Kartik felt like his life had turned into a stagnant, hopeless pool. During a community screening camp organized with support from the DAK Foundation, DECF workers identified Kartik and brought him to the base hospital.
Within 48 hours, Kartik underwent modern cataract surgery with foldable IOL implantation. When his bandages were removed, tears rolled down his cheeks as he exclaimed that the world looked as bright as his youth. He has now returned to active work, proud to feed his children with dignity.
