Suruvi Akhter (15) reads in class nine in Nisbetganj Jarimunnesa School & College, Rangpur City Corporation. Continuing her studies under severe economic hardship, her academic dreams were slipping away because she could not read what teachers wrote on the blackboard or read textbooks without severe headaches.
During a School-Aged Children Screening Program (SACSP) conducted at her school by the Deep Eye Care Foundation outreach team, Suruvi's vision was tested. She was diagnosed with severe compound myopic astigmatism that had gone undetected for years.
She was brought to the base hospital in Darshona, where an extensive computerized refraction was completed. Custom precision spectacles were dispensed to her through DECF's subsidized optical support initiative.
With her vision restored to 6/6, Suruvi re-entered the classroom with renewed self-esteem and is now performing at the top tier of her class, dreaming of becoming a doctor herself.
